Tax refund for goods purchased in Germany

Visitors, who stayed temporarily in Germany and purchased goods there, can be refunded for the 19% VAT (value-added tax, Mehrwertsteuer) paid on the product. Compulsory for such a reimbursement is that the person did not hold a visa (for example study- or work-visa) for Germany at the time of the purchase.

If you held a visa at the time of the purchase, you are not eligible for the tax refund.

The tax refund is done either by the seller or by "Tax Free".

In order to get the refund you have to get tthe tax refund forms stamped by the German customs office (after checking in at the counter and getting the boarding pass you have to take the luggage with the boarding pass to the office and after stamping you have to bring back the luggage to the check-in counter).

Only if - for an exceptional reason, which you have to prove - you can not get the forms stamped by Customs in Germany, the German Embassy can stamp the forms.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30 -- 12.30
Stamping is done on the spot.

Please submit:

* statement describing why you were unable to request the stamp when leaving Germany,
* purchased items,
* purchase-receipt and tax-refund form (from store in Germany),
* your passport,
* fee of SGD 40 in cash.
