Passports

You need a new passport or want to renew your current one? The following documents are required:

* completed application form,
* current passport or identity card,
* certificate of deregistration from the last place of residence in Germany (Abmeldebescheinigung),
* proof of residency in Singapore (employment or dependants pass),
* birth certificate and, in case of change of name, a certificate stating the new name,
* for newborns: birth certificate, parents passports and marriage certificate.
* all applicants require two identical, recent passport photos suitable for biometric passports. For more details please click on the link " Specifications for passport photos" below.

Every document has to be submitted in the original version together with one photocopy. Your need to apply personally because your fingerprints are required.

Translation and legalization of documents

Some German documents, in particular birth certificates, marriage certificates and driving licenses as well as some Singaporean documents, in particular birth certificates and marriage certificates, can be translated by the German Embassy.

Certificate of good conduct

If you require a "Certificate of good conduct" (polizeiliches Führungszeugnis) please download the application form below and send it to the Bundesamt für Justiz in Germany after authentication of your signature by the German Embassy in Singapore (please come personally and bring along your passport). The fee is SGP 40,00.

Refund of German pension contributions

After having relocating from Germany and lived in Singapore for two years you are entitled to apply for a refund of your pension contributions. Please download and fill in the form below and come to the German Embassy in Singapore for authentication of your personal data (please come personally and bring along your passport).

Tax refund for goods purchased in Germany

Visitors, who stayed temporarily in Germany and purchased goods there, can be refunded for the 19% VAT (value-added tax, Mehrwertsteuer) paid on the product. Compulsory for such a reimbursement is that the person did not hold a visa (for example study- or work-visa) for Germany at the time of the purchase.

Importing pets from abroad

When importing an animal into Germany there are many regulations to be observed. For detailed information please refer to the website of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agricultur and Consumer Protection.

Driving in Germany

If you are a on a short term stay in Germany (not longer than 185 days)  you can drive with a foreign driving license (either national or international).
Foreign national driving licenses which are not issued
- in German language or
- by a EU member state or
- according to Viena Agreement on traffic
have to be translated and the translation certified by the German Embassy.
