Short-term visa for business trips, tourists and/or social visits

Who can apply?

Only residents of Singapore planning to travel to  Germany (or Portugal) on business, as a tourist or for a social visit who are subject to a visa requirement can  apply for a short-term visa at the German Embassy in Singapore. The application has to be done personally. A visa issued by the German Embassy is valid for all Schengen countries for a stay of up to 90 days.

Schengen countries include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finnland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithunia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The German Embassy issues visa only for trips to Germany and Portugal. If you are planning to visit another Schengen country, please contact the responsible mission/authority of the respective country. If you are travelling to two or more countries you have to apply for a visa at the mission of the country in which you will spend most of the time of your journey. The purpose of a visit can not be altered once the visa has been issued (after having entered the Schengen territory). If you would like to extend your visa, please contact the Embassy prior to your departure.

Submission & collection time: Mondays - Fridays  09.00 am - 12.00 noon

The processing time is approximately 4 working-days. For some nationalities (e.g. Bangladeshi, Filipino, Indonesian, Pakistani, Vietnamese) the processing of a visa application takes approximately 10 working-days.

What documents are required?

Each individual applicant must submit the following set of documents:

  • 1 application form and 1 photo;
    The photo must have a white background and must fulfill additional requirements
    (For details please download the  pdf-file "Sample photos for visa application".). Note: Some nationals (i.e. Bangladeshis, Chinese, Filipinos, Indonesians, Pakistanis and Vietnamese) have to submit 2 application forms and 2 photos.
  • passport with a validity of at least 6 months;
  • photocopy each of the passport and the employment pass, dependant's pass, student pass or blue IC with re-entry permit.
  • Visa fee: S$ 130 (payable in cash)

If the purpose of stay is business:

  • an official letter from your company stating that the company takes full responsibility for all your expenses, including medical care and repatriation, if necessary (please bring the original letter signed with blue ink);
  • an invitation letter from a registered company in Germany (or Portugal). Please submit a letter or a fax. Do NOT submit an email!
  • the air travel itinerary;
  • a travel insurance.

If the purpose of stay is holiday:

  • company letter confirming your employment status and income;
  • proof of sufficient financial means of support (bank statements of the last three months);
  • proof of accomodation (through a travel-agent)
    or invitation letter from a relative or friend in Germany, including a financial guarantee statement (Verpflichtungserklärung §68 AufenthG) endorsed by the responsible municipality of the city in which the relative or freind resides;
  • if children accompany either one or both parents copies of the birth certificate of the children and marriage certificate of parents are required; 
  • travel insurance;
  • airline ticket/itinerary.

If the purpose of stay is for medical treatment:

  • a medical certificate issued by your doctor in Singapore;
  • written confirmation of an appointment in a hospital or with a doctor in Germany;
  • proof that the cost of the medical treatment can be covered (letter from the insurance company or bank statement).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • All documents must be submitted in original plus 1 photocopy. The Embassy can ask for additional documents.
  • Your passport has to remain in the Embassy until collection of the visa (except for passportholders which application process takes about 10 working days).
  • There is no legal right to a short-term visa!
  • There are no urgent visa or express-visa!
  • Phone inquiries regarding the status of your visa application cannot be answered!
